Green season is a special time in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Also considered the growing, or planting season for obvious reasons, the rain causes the whole province to burst with color – particularly green. Pueblo Verde is the “Green Village” for more than just our eco-conscious practices and principles.

Despite the flush of green that floods our scenery this time of year, some plants take advantage of the season to flower and fruit; we just get to enjoy the show.

The Passionfruit Vine is one of the many visual delights that can be found in Pueblo Verde. Called “maracuyá” in Spanish, this fire-engine red flower attracts many pollinators, including bees and hummingbirds.

Throughout the green season blooms a purple vine from the Bignoniaceae (trumpet vine) family. The vine covers several trees along the main road in Pueblo Verde and is stunning to see for a few days before the blooms fall lightly to the ground. Lot #10 has the largest concentration of trees with this beautiful display.

The Heliconia bring some of our favorite visitors in Pueblo Verde: hummingbirds. As the main pollinator, hummingbirds cannot resist this oddly shaped, bright-orange flower. Several swaths have been strategically planted around the development.

Another ornamental gem of Pueblo Verde includes the clavelina, also called malinche. Its flowers can be red, orange, pink, yellow or a combination of all. Though this plant is beautiful to behold, as well as the hummingbirds who visit it, watch out for a spiny stem.

The ever-popular Hibiscus, or Amapola. This particular plant bears a creamy-pink flower.

Beautiful, scarlet-colored ginger flowers.

Along the main road are also plantings of the ornamental Costa Rican Costus,  which is a pure white flower, also attracting hummingbirds.

We recommend taking a stroll through Pueblo Verde to see these and more along your way. Contact us to schedule your tour.
